World economic crisis and economic reality in Serbia inspired Association of free and independent trade unions (AFITU) to create SOS markets. These markets are a reflection of our social reality and they respond to a real need.

          Through successful project realization of opening the SOS markets AFITU has proven that cares for socially handicapped citizens. The aim of this project is providing assistance for citizens who are particularly affected by the world economic crisis:

• workers who earn minimum income,
• retired persons,
• unemployed,
• recipients of social assistance,
• persons with disabilities,
• refugees,
• and exiled persons

          SOS markets offer various items at a lower prices even up to 50 percent than in other trade shops in Serbia. It has been estimated that customer can save about 100 EUR per month by buying in SOS markets.

          Success of this project reflects in the fact that since the beginning of 2009 there have been opened ten (10) SOS markets in Belgrade and there is a plan for their opening in other towns throughout Serbia in the close future.
